An Introduction to Butterflies and Summer Blooms of the Delaware Botanic Gardens

Join volunteer educators Margaret Kimmel and volunteers at the Delaware Botanic Gardens to learn about the Summer butterflies that visit the Piet Oudolf Meadow including Monarchs, Swallowtails, Fritillaries, Sulphur, Skippers, Hairstreaks, and more. Margaret is a former science teacher, and faculty advisor of a middle school Ecology Club, and participated as a Seasonal Naturalist for Delaware Seashore State Park and The Great Monarch Migration. Learning to identify these butterflies, guests will discover the critical role of nectar, host plants, and blooms in the life cycle of butterflies. Participants conclude their butterfly experience by exploring the Piet Oudolf Meadow with DBG volunteers, identifying the many butterflies that visit the Garden.

The program begins on July 20th from 9:00 to 10:00 am and runs each Thursday until August 31. Preregistration is required due to the limited class size. This is a family-friendly program welcoming butterfly lovers of all ages. The cost for this program is $10. Children 16 and under are free but must be accompanied by an adult.

Reserve your ticket for entry into the gardens on the day of the program here. Guest fee for admission is $15, members are admitted free.
